Shopify App Store: Spectrum Product Customization
Spectrum Product Customization is a Shopify app that embeds a full product customizer directly into your Shopify storefront and the Shop App. Customers personalize products — choosing colors, materials, print locations, text, logos, and more — without ever leaving your store.
The app connects your Shopify store to the Spectrum Customizer platform, where customizer configurations, artwork libraries, and design rules are managed by your team.
Core Features
Inline Customization on the Product Page
A "Customize" button appears on enabled product pages. When clicked, the full Spectrum Customizer opens in an overlay modal — no pop-ups, no new tabs, no redirects. Customers design their product and add it to the cart in one seamless flow.
Live Preview in Cart & Checkout
When customization is complete, a rendered preview image of the customer's design appears in the Shopify cart. On Shopify Plus stores, the preview image carries through to checkout via a Cart Transform function.
Upcharge & Addon Support
Optional upgrades (extra print locations, premium materials, application methods) are automatically resolved to Shopify variants and added to the cart alongside the base product. Pricing uses standard Shopify variant pricing — no custom checkout logic required.
One-Click Reorder
Returning customers can reorder previously customized products instantly — same design, same configuration, straight to cart.
Design Gallery
Showcase recent customizations from other customers as social proof on product pages.
Mobile-First Experience
The customizer modal goes full-screen on mobile for an optimized touch experience on phones and tablets.
Live Variant Sync
When a customer changes size or color inside the customizer, the Shopify product page variant selection updates automatically — no mismatched selections or cart errors.
How It Works
Customer visits a product page on your Shopify store.
Clicks the "Customize" button.
The Spectrum Customizer opens in an overlay on the same page.
Customer designs their product.
Clicks "Add to Cart" — the product with a preview image goes directly to the Shopify cart.
Any addon/upcharge items are automatically added as separate line items.
Standard Shopify checkout — the order flows into Spectrum for fulfillment.
Merchant Admin Features
The embedded Shopify admin interface provides:
Dashboard
Connection status, active Spectrum environment, and store configuration at a glance.
Product Setup
Enable or disable customization per variant. Variants are validated against the Spectrum catalog in real time using SKU, Variant ID, barcode, and product attributes.
Variant Mapping
Map Shopify variants to Spectrum catalog items. Includes match suggestions when no exact match is found.
Bulk Actions
Select multiple variants and enable or disable customization in bulk.
Settings
Configure environment, upcharge sync, and other store-level settings.
Demo Mode
When a store installs the app without an existing Spectrum client account, the app runs in demo mode:
All features are fully functional using a sample product catalog.
The admin dashboard shows "Demo" status with an info banner.
Once the store's domain is registered with Spectrum, the app automatically switches to the merchant's live catalog — no manual action required.
Installation & Setup
Install the app from the Shopify App Store.
Enable the app embed — In your Shopify theme editor, go to Theme Settings > App Embeds and enable Spectrum Customizer.
Add the Customize button — In the theme editor, add the Customize Button block to your product page template.
Enable products — In the app's admin interface, navigate to Products and enable the variants you want to offer customization on.
Map variants — The app validates your variants against the Spectrum catalog. Enable matched variants for storefront customization.
No theme code changes are required. No Shopify developer needed.
Pricing
The Spectrum Customizer Shopify App is free to install. It operates in demo mode with a sample catalog. Merchants with an existing Spectrum platform subscription connect their products at no additional per-install or per-transaction fee.
